Analysis of Financial Data, Public Economics, Swedish A1
Housing is definitely a big plus point at Umea University. The university has a quota of student rooms reserved for exchange students. As long as you are enrolled in at least 15 CP, you have priority. The rooms are located in corridors of 6-12 rooms in different parts of the city, about 5-15 minutes by bike from the university. I lived in Nydala, a somewhat quieter area. An exchange student and six Swedish students lived in my corridor. In other neighborhoods, the proportion of international students is sometimes significantly higher. Normally, you have your own bathroom but share the kitchen with your roommates.
People tend to be rather reserved, which is also the case in many parts of Switzerland. In addition, a large part of life takes place outdoors. This means you should definitely bring warm clothing and be prepared for this.
The university is relatively well organized and structured. This is especially true for exchange students, as I believe the university has specialized somewhat in exchange students. If I remember correctly, there are a few hundred exchange students every semester. Accordingly, the processes for enrollment, module booking, and housing are very well described and work well.
Check with Umea University in advance to see if you meet the course requirements, then check with UZH to see if you can get credit for them. It is also advisable to sign up for the buddy program and to make sure you arrange your housing through the university.
